We finally got some spring like and summer humidity this week! It was an adjustment for all of us . The campsite proved to be a great refuge from the heat, wooded shade and a nice breeze blowing on the hill. The children loved climbing on the natural play structure, hammering, building their hut, and cooking in the mud kitchen.
Thanks parents for remembering hats for your child. Please send them with long pants or rain pants to put over their shorts for hiking. The rain pants work great since the the elastic bottoms help prevent ticks from crawling up their legs. Please remember to send your child to school with rubber boots. There are some great mud puddles across the street to wade in.
We are well underway with our turtle unit. We watched two documentaries on turtles and learned how adults can help turtles ( and amphibians ) cross the roads this time of year. We also learned that one should not take wild turtles home as pets. Many species are endangered and they need to be in the wild. The snapping turtle video was a big hit! The children marveled at it,s size, dragon tail and incredible jaws.
Next week working on our turtles and playing at the campsite!
Happy outdoor exploring
