Hi parents and grandparents,
The children are excited about our raptor unit and are having a challenging time deciding which raptor to choose. We watched an educational documentary on raptors and the sounds they make, measured children,s “ wing spans” and compared their wing spans to those of raptors. The bald eagle wins having a wing span of 84”! The children are making a paper model of their bird and color it looking at specific markings of their bird. These are on display in the 4 day room bulletin board. They will transfer their design on wood and make a wooden model after sanding and preparing the wood for paint.
We also discussed ‘ filling buckets “ as opposed to being a “ bucket dipper” . This conversation is also good to continue at home. The children all know what it means !
Outside we went sledding on the sledding hill, walked to the river to see if the water was open or still iced over ( it was both) and used the binoculars to look at the river. We also learned about the sumac bush and admired the color of the seeds.
The children had fun making snow forts and snow people, and sharing sleds to see which sled is the fastest.
Next week we will continue to sled and work on our bird unit. Please send your child to school with their sled and helmet.
Happy outdoor exploring
